On May 20, 2008 the MPs voted to permit hybrid embryos.
The British parliament is current considering legislation, the Human Fertilization and Embryology Bill, on human-animal hybrid embryos which would be used for research among other reproductive issues like “savior siblings”. In 2006 the Parliamentary Science and Technology Committee issued a report entitled “Government Proposals on the Regulation of Hybrid and Chimera Embryos” which discussed this subject to which the Government responded in 2007.

Today, in a 4-3 decision, the California Supreme Court upheld the right of same-sex couples to be married, declaring that state statutes restricting marriage to “the union ‘between a man and a woman’” were unconstitutional. See In re Marriage Cases, S147999.
