Beyond Lexis and Westlaw: Electronic Resources for Summer RAs

Please join me TOMORROW, May 29th at 1pm in the Library Computer Training Lab (room 334) for a session covering electronic resources beyond Westlaw and LexisNexis.

Find out about electronic indexes and full text databases for those difficult “Law &” research questions, how to use the BU online catalog (and other library catalogs), where to locate and access electronic journals, where to find page images of legal sources, and more.

The session meets from 1 -2 pm.  If you’re unable to attend, you may request a reference appointment with Raquel for a review of these resources.  Please include “Beyond Lexis and Westlaw” in the Paper Topic field.

“Chimera” Embryos: Human-animal Hybrid Embryos

On May 20, 2008 the MPs voted to permit hybrid embryos.

The British parliament is current considering legislation, the Human Fertilization and Embryology Bill, on human-animal hybrid embryos which would be used for research among other reproductive issues like “savior siblings”.  In 2006 the Parliamentary Science and Technology Committee issued a report entitled “Government Proposals on the Regulation of Hybrid and Chimera Embryos” which discussed this subject to which the Government responded in 2007.

California Same-Sex Marriage Decision

Filed under Important Cases

Today, in a 4-3 decision, the California Supreme Court upheld the right of same-sex couples to be married, declaring that state statutes restricting marriage to “the union ‘between a man and a woman’” were unconstitutional. See In re Marriage Cases, S147999.
